remembering sept events at molly’s cafe

in sept molly’s cafe got back up and running after the sauna summer.  the season has started!

joao's photo

we started with an opening, appropriately enough, of cafe photos by joao nasri, who is interested in how cafe culture across europe unites and integrates people. unfortuntely that was the night that turkey played slovenia in the semifinals of the world basketball championship, so not many people turned up.  the good part is that i got home early enough to watch the last 10 minutes of the match!

on sept 18 the cafe had two events.  one was the film poster and book sale by jeff kahrs.  jeff has a big collection of film posters in turkish, mostly, with a few in other languages.  he was also downsizing his book collection.

frank, not ben

the other event was ben weeks playing frank sinatra and other oldies, including the beatles.  his friend played a bit too.   there was a good turnout and everyone enjoyed the music.

barbara nadel

on sept 24 barbara nadel did a book talk about the mysteries she write.  they are set in istanbul with turkish police officers.  several people turned out to listen to her.

sept 25 was a great night for jazz with bilal karaman.  it is amazing the sounds he can squeeze from his guitar!  his friend played sax with him for a while and in general it was a very cool evening.

musica cubana

finally, sept 29 was a lasagna dinner with wonderful cuban music with onelia and nider.  jairo was a great help in organizing the event and there was a good turnout.  the music was fab and i hope to have them back again.

so, the molly’s cafe season is on track!  i hope to see you here soon, as october will be a full month.
